Belize is a melting pot of people with a diverse set of cultures; with native and foreign influences. We especially see this in the sound that’s produced and release from varrying generation. When asked an elderly person is asked, what is the traditional sound of Belize, one might say brukdown, or punta and its sub-genre punta rock. A younger generation would challenge that to say soca, reggae, or a version of dance hall/hip-hop. Despite what is consider is the authentic traditional sound of Belize, one thing is true, varying groups in Belize appreciate a wide range of music and sound with influences from all cultures. It’s with that in mind that Mervin Budram and Alida Sharp ventured out to create a project titled, Belizean Christmas that caters to those who are looking for the traditional brukdown sound, as well as does who enjoy the Caribbean reggae/ soca/ punta sound; Not forgetting those who enjoy to sultry jazz & blues all giving an evolved Belizean Christmas experience.
