“wax on, wax off” steps to a disciplined Christian walk

How is your walk in the Lord today? Are you disciplined in your Christian walk? Are you purposely walking out the word of God?

In Hebrews 12:3-17, the scripture speaks to discipline. There are many other more important verses in this section of reading (to which I urge you to read), but verse 4 was interesting to me. It reads as follows “In your struggle against sin you have not yet resisted to the point of shedding your blood.” I thought about that for a while and it brought this to my remembrance.

When I was younger I use to watch those Shaolin karate movies they use to show on the television. Back then, every kid was a karate expert 😃. Anyhow, when the Shaolin monk was training to kick and to get his kick or his punch as powerful as it could be, he would kick at or punch at the tree repeatedly, so much so that his fists or shin would bleed. He disciplined himself to continue in his training to become the best and more than often, that drew some blood. But in the end, he could punch through walls and kick through buildings. At least, in the movies 😃.

Have you come to that point in your life and in your struggle against sin, whereby you’ve drawn blood? Your struggle is so intense that you sweat blood? I don’t know about you but I haven’t. My struggles have brought me to tears, but not to blood. Does that mean that I need to discipline myself some more? Hmm! Maybe!

I encourage you to get into the word of God daily. He has so much to teach you “grasshopper”. There are lots of “wax on, wax off” steps that we must discipline ourselves in. How is your (disciplined) walk in the Lord today?
